We really enjoyed a variety of Maths challenges last week!

We have had some very enjoyable sessions with Josh from Clonakilty Rugby Club!

The hardest working post office in Ireland has been up and running this month in the Junior Room. A record breaking number of letters and parcels have been delivered!

Our Juniors and Seniors have very busy days here at Reenascreena NS. They work individually and together on various tasks from counting and sorting to play doh and other activities to improve their gross and fine motor skills. What a hard working bunch they are!

Last Friday was World Dot Day so I challenged the older pupils of the Junior Room to create a piece centred on dot style flowers. With relaxing music playing in the backgroup our artists got straight to work. There was a big nod to biodiversity with ladybirds, butterflies, bugs and insects including suns and rainbows. The results are just terrific.

One of the huge benefits of our multigrade setting is undoubtedly the range of opportunities for pupils to mix, play and learn together. Here you will see boys and girls from the Junior Room working in a range of ways together. The smiles tell their own stories!

The highlight of the week is always golden time! We had great fun sharing our toys today.

We were delighted to welcome our newest pupils to Reenascreena NS today. The sun shone and the day was a terrific success! Wishing them 8 happy years full of learning and fun!

We will reopen next Wednesday August 30th at 9:05am. School will finish at 1:55pm for Junior and Senior Infants and 2:55pm for all other classes. We look forward to seeing you all!

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Toon, Louis and their family this year. They have spent the year in West Cork and will return home to the Netherlands at the end of the summer. To ensure we never forget them, they planted a tree in the garden this week.

What a day we had for sports day! Colm, Rosarie, Fionnuala and the pupils of the senior room set up games on the yard and the pitch. We did things like foot golf, welly throwing, bowling, musical chairs, bean bag toss, long jump, javelin throwing and sack races. We cooled down with a well deserved ice cream and to finish there was a monster relay race involving everyone from 1st – 6th. It was a hugely enjoyable day, well done everyone!

We kickstarted a thoroughly enjoyable Sports Day with a Zumba class!

The pupils of Junior Infants – 2nd had a brilliantly active day out in Skib, it was non stop! We had our lunch at Dromhilly Woods on the way home, it was a great day out!

The pupils of 3rd – 6th class had a brilliant day out at Airtastic in Little Island yesterday. It was a great reward for a super year’s work by everyone!

For the first time in many years, Reenascreena NS sent a team of boys and girls to the City Sports and what a day we had! The atmopshere was terrific and of course the sun continued to shine! It was a brilliant test to run against other schools and we were overjoyed to bring home 2 trophies. We are so very proud of all our athletes and look forward to continuing this tradition in the coming years.

The pupils of the Senior Room had a great day out at Sciath na Scol recently. They wore the jersey with pride and represented the school and themselves brilliantly on the day. We are very proud of all our players and their coaches Colm and Rosarie. Maith sibh go léir!

We were visited by Garda Hurley and Garda Dylan from Rosscarbery this week. They spoke to us about the very important topics of road and farm safety.

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Eoin Lettice, the uncle of one of our pupils, to Reenascreena recently. Eoin is a lecturer in Plant Science at UCC and spoke to the pupils about biodiversity and the importance of plants. They estimated the age of a tree and planetd sunflower seeds which are coming along very nicely! Eoin also brought some carniverous plants for us to see. It was a very enjoyable and informative visit!

We are so proud of our 3 pupils who received their First Holy Communion over the weekend. Congratulations to all!

We are very proud of our 3 pupils who competed in the regatta in Rosscarbery last Sunday. They did themselves, their families and school very proud. Maith sibh!

While we waited for rain showers to pass, we followed School Fitness Ireland’s YouTube videos to stay active. They were great fun!

The pupils of 1st and 2nd created an obstacle course for Juniors and Seniors. It was terrific fun!

We are having an absolute ball this week during Active Week! Here you will see Junior Infants and Senior Infants working together as well as 1st and 2nd engaging in a Maths trail around the school grounds.

We continue to enjoy training sessions with players and coaches from Carbery Rangers GAA club.

The pupils of the senior room took on the challenge of orienteering in Liss Aird estate recently. They had a great day out!

Cycling continued last week for the Senior room with Ben and Karl from Cycle Right. We revised the bike check as well as our on road manoeuvres such as look-signal-look and turning corners. 

We looked at dealing with large vehicles such as trucks and learnt about the ‘blind zones’ that these vehicles can have. 

We also looked at common road cycling scenarios such as overtaking parked cars as well as various road signs and what they mean. 

One of our pupils is enjoying an adventure with his family in West Cork for a year and told us all about his home country recently. We all learned plenty of facts about the Netherlands!

We were delighted to get a chance to look at a winning trophy from this year’s Rally. The proud children of the driver and navigator were so proud to show it off!

The pupils of Junior and Senior Infants worked very hard on pattern challenges recently. Maith sibh!

The Senior room began their ‘Cycle Right’ program in partnership with Ruth and Ben from Cycle Sense. They had a great time learning all about bike safety and cycling technique. Skills covered included the bike check, balancing, turning corners, indicating and checking over our shoulders.

Bhain na pháistí ó rang a trí go dtí rang a sé an-taitneamh as an tráth na gceist um thráthnóna!

We had a lovely walk along the Tullig Road yesterday. We were lucky the showers stayed away while we clocked up alomst 4km for our ‘Step into Spring’ challenge!

1st and 2nd had great fun today doing some coding with Beebots! Many thanks to West Cork Education Centre for the loan of the equipment, our budding engineers really enjoyed themselves!

We are immensely proud of our 5th and 6th class pupils who received the Sacrament of Confirmation yesterday in St Fachtna’s Church, Rosscarbery with the pupils of Lisavaird NS, Ardagh Boys NS and St Mary’s GNS.

We enjoyed a session of Reading Buddies on World Book Day recently!

The whole school was invited to visit The Agricultural College in Darrara for their open day on Tuesday. On a beautiful spring day, we had a wonderful visit. We say calves and lambs, tried out the tractor simulator and sat into an array of tractors and machinary. It was a day we won’t forget!

Pupils from the senior room had a chance to put their chess skills to the test against pupils from other schools last Friday. They had a great day!

8 pupils participated in an FAI soccer tournament in Bantry yesterday. They had a very enjoyable day and competed really well. Maith sibh!

We are delighted to be taking part in the ‘Step Into Spring Schools Walking Challenge 2023’ in association with the Cork Sports Partnership and Get Ireland Walking. The challenge consists of 3 distance options (10KM, 15KM and 20KM) and will begin on the 6th February and will run until the 17th March 2023. Here are some photos from our first walk. 

Fionnuala and Claire displayed their terrific cooking skills, making pancakes for everyone today. Go raibh míle maith agaibh, they were simply delicious!

We had great fun today using our 6 bricks in many different ways. We followed teacher’s silent instructions; worked in pairs to mirror each other’s builds; played desk Twister and then 1st and 2nd worked on their addition tables while Junior and Senior Infants worked on sounding out words. Everyone worked very hard and had fun at the same time!
