The boys and girls of the Senior Room have been very busy in the garden! Last week, they planted potatoes, onions, peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and sunflowers with Fachtna.

The boys and girls in our Junior Room were hard at work this morning – they learned a new poem about a rocket and then coloured, cut, glued and decorated pictures of a rocket zooming off to the moon! Just look at the concentration on their faces! And what about the end result?! Well done everyone! Those pictures look great in our hallway!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable day at Clonakilty GAA grounds last Friday competing in Sciath na Scol. The boys and girls were a credit to the school and did us proud in every game. Well done to you all!

We are delighted to be participating in Agri Aware’s Incredible Edibles programme. We got stuck in yesterday with task 1, planting lettuce, carrots, spinach, turnips and chives. We can’t wait for task 4 when we’ll be preparing, cooking and (best of all!) EATING Irish fruit, vegetables, potatoes and herbs!

Luke and Caleb were inspired to draw summer pictures yesterday to mark the first day of the summer season. They cheered us all up in such bad weather!! Well done boys!!

It was great to get outside after so many lunch breaks had to be spent inside of late. Some of the pupils in the Junior Room investigated with a science kit while others embraced the Active Week spirit!

The pupils in the Senior Room are busy preparing for upcoming Sciath na Scol matches. They have been working hard in training with Fachtna and are looking forward to next Friday when the games commence!

In between circuits and swimming, we spent a little time playing tables games on our iPads earlier today. The sites we used were https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables, https://www.timestables.com/, http://www.multiplication.com/games/play/tonys-tires-multiplication . The children were happy to be playing on the iPads and not writing their Maths out while I was happy they were working on their tables so it really was win/win!

Children and adults alike really enjoyed being extra active this week! Highlights included getting active homework instead of written work, following ‘Just Dance’ videos on YouTube, then choreographing our own moves to the song ‘Blue Da Ba Dee’ and wearing our tracksuits ALL WEEK!

We finished off our activities today with circuits for the whole school in the yard organised by the pupils of the Senior Room. As you can see, everyone got stuck in and it was great fun! That wasn’t the end of our active day as we squeezed a swimming lesson in this afternoon too. What a day and what a week!

We were thrilled to see the rain stop for long enough to get outside for our lunch break today! We turned our Active Lines into an Active Circle and 2 pupils from the Senior Room led us through some challenging exercises.

The pupils in the Senior Room are working on different Maths concepts. Together they worked together on a number of tasks.

We are delighted to be participating in Active Schools Week! We will be more active than usual, inside and outside the classroom. We will even substitute some of our usual written homework for physical activities from dancing and 10 @ 10 workouts to helping out around the house. The rest of the week is going to be tracksuit-wearing, no-uniform so we can really work our socks off!

The pupils in the Senior Room paired up before the Easter holidays and gave each other a book to read over the break. Today they got together to discuss the choices their friends made for them. The feedback was very positive, the boys and girls really enjoyed the fact the book was recommended by a friend. We will definitely be doing this again soon!

The boys and girls in the Junior Room were very busy doing sugar painting recently! They mixed icing sugar with water to make a paste which they spread on their page before adding paint. The results are just fantastic, well done everyone!

The Internet Safety workshop was a huge success this morning. James from Zeeko did a super job talking to the pupils from 2nd – 6th classes about a range of topics. He explained the permanent nature of our digital footprint, gave helpful tips on how to handle cyber-bullying, warned about how easy it is to deceive others online and the importance of having a balance between screen time and other activities to promote good mental health. The boys and girls reported that they really enjoyed the talk, learned quite a lot of new information and many even said they will reduce their screen time now!

Next up is a Teachers’ meeting in Lisavaird NS after school and the Parents’ meeting this evening at 7pm, also in Lisavaird NS. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Pupils in the Senior Room experimented mixing glue and paint together yesterday. They then drew a design of a decorated Easter egg, placed it in a plastic folder and painted over the design. Today their creations have dried and can lift off the plastic folder easily. They will stick to a window or magnetic surface. Great work everyone!

Armed with metre sticks, rulers and trundle wheels the Senior Room pupils have been busy exploring length!

The creative juices were really flowing today! The boys and girls in the Senior Room have been learning about a style of painting called Pointillism and created some pieces of their own. The results are just fantastic!!

The boys and girls from 1st – 6th class have been learning The Siege of Ennis with Tonya. They are doing brilliantly and are having lots of fun in the process!

Jeremy, Conor and Denis from our local GAA club, Carbery Rangers, visited today to tell us that there will be registration tomorrow evening in The Celtic Ross Hotel for underage members. They brought a cup that the Minor Boys won last year and we had great fun passing it around!

The children were also told about the great success the club had at the recent All-Ireland Scór championships in Sligo when the Girls’ ballad group won the overall title. The message was strong – whether it’s football, singing, dancing or drama everyone is welcome at Carbery Rangers!

Conor is a past pupil of ours and enjoyed meeting his former teacher, Mary, and having a good look around his old school!

The pupils in the Senior Room presented projects recently. They did a super job!

We are going to start working towards our ‘Active Schools’ flag. This week, we started ‘active lines’ where pupils from the Senior room take it in turn to lead exercises in our lines at the end of yard time.

What a start to a Friday morning – snow as far as the eye can see!

There was great excitement today with the arrival of our future Junior Infants! Our present Junior and Senior Infant boys and girls had a great time welcoming their future classmates and playing with them.

There was more excitement at home-time than usual today as we had some flurries of snow in Reenascreena! Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that it will stick!
